Glass Lake Winter Sunset

Glass Lake Winter Sunset

After the third nor’easter in fifteen days, the snow was piling up. Glass Lake Winter Sunset. The local weatherman was claiming that this was the fifth highest snowfall in March, 25 inches, on records going back to 1859.  What I found unusual was that the sun and sky did not come out for an appearance for almost three weeks.  So when a patch of sunset appeared I grabbed my gear and went lakeside for Glass Lake Winter Sunset.

I marched thru the massive drifts and planted my tripod with the Nikon D50 and 16-36mm into the snow. I waited until the sun was positioned with a lovely lake reflection and made my shot. The air was warm, and the lake was not frozen. I made a series of images. The final composite image used a prolonged exposure to smooth the lake choppiness and to drag the sky clouds.

Over the years I have made dozens of images of this lake.  I am at a point that it has to be a very special moment to motivate me.  This time, It only took three nor’easters and 25 inches of snowfall
