Reichards Farm Winter Stream

The Capital Region in upstate New York has a ton of lakes, rivers, ponds, and streams. A photographer can spend forever trying to capture images of them all.

The Reichards Farm Winter Stream is fed by a small lake two and a half miles away back up in the mountains. For fifteen years I have driven past this hidden stream that empties in Rensselaer County’s Poesten kill creek,  then into the mighty Hudson River in Troy.

These lands and waterways have been settled and mapped by the early Dutch since 1632. However, I am almost sure that my image of an icy water melt beneath the snow at this location is the first in three hundred and eighty-six years.
